What are dice or craps?

Craps OnlineCraps is a dice game that can be played in casinos. It is played with two dice, and players can bet on various dice outcomes. You win if a 7 or 11 is rolled, or you lose if a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled (known as ‘craps’). Any other number rolled becomes the ‘point’, and this point must be rolled again before a 7 is rolled in order to win.

Rules for playing craps

You must also handle the dice with care, otherwise you may lose the opportunity to bet at a particular table.

The dice should only ever be thrown with one hand. The dice must hit the wall on the opposite side of the table. If the dice fall over the edge of the table, the croupier must check them and possibly replace them.

Only one player may roll the dice at a time during the game. The other players (up to 20 people) place their bets. You don’t have to be the pitcher to have fun, but this task will certainly give you extra enjoyment. Many different types of bets are possible in this game.

  • The first roll is called the ‘come out roll’. This is also the first type of bet you can choose. The game begins with this field, and the pitcher can only continue his tasks if he can score points. If this is not the case, the next player to the left of the current pitcher throws the dice;
  • The pitcher throws the dice across the table, which is divided into different sectors for betting. There are three sectors in total where you can place bets. There are two outer betting areas and one central area. The table is symmetrical and has pass, don’t pass, don’t come and come bets on both sides. The odds, place bets and fields can also be seen on the side. The betting options are displayed in the middle;
  • The Pass bet is available if the first roll, the ‘Come Out Roll’, has resulted in 7 or 11 points. This bet is lost if the dice show 2, 3 or 12;
  • The Don’t Pass or Don’t Come bets are lost if 7 or 11 is rolled. To win, you need 2 or 3 points.
🎲 Pass 🎲 Don’t Pass 🎲 Come 🎲 Don’t Come
Wins if The come-out roll results in 7 or 11. A 2 or 3 is rolled. A 2 or 3 is rolled.
Loses if The dice show 2, 3, or 12. A 7 or 11 is rolled. A 7 or 11 is rolled.

Betting

Pass Line Bet: If a 7 or 11 is rolled on the first roll, you win. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, you lose. You can continue this bet and declare that the point is counted if a 7 is rolled again. If the 7 is rolled before the point, you lose.

Odds for the Pass Line Bet: Once the point is established, you can determine the odds. These vary depending on the point selected. We will show you the different options:

Points Payout
4 or 10 2:1
5 or 9 3:1
6 or 8 6:5

Come Bet: The same rules apply to this bet as to the Pass Line bet. No bets can be placed before the number has been determined. Here, you predict that a seven will be rolled after the next number. In other words, you have to determine the number that will be rolled before the seven.

The odds of winning a Come bet are exactly the same as for the Pass Line bet described above.

Don’t Pass Line Bet: The opposite of the Pass Bet. To win, you must roll a 2 or 3, or a 12 for a tie. You must also select a number. Once the number has been selected, a seven must be rolled before the number is selected again. Otherwise, you lose.

Don’t Come Bet: This is also a bet that is the opposite of the Come Bet. In addition, a come-out roll is required before placing this bet.

Place Bets: Before placing this bet, you must select a number. Then you bet on a specific number and hope that it comes up before the 7. If that number comes up, you win. The bet depends on the number you predict:

Points Payout
4 or 10 9:5
5, 6 or 8 7:6

Field Bets: This is a single bet where the other bets remain in place until you lose or win. With this bet, you are betting that a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 will be rolled. If one of the other numbers is rolled first, you lose your bet. Depending on the number, you will receive a payout of 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. You can also place a bet with the same payout on the numbers 2 or 12.

Big Six, Big Eight bets: This bet can only be won if a six or eight is rolled before a seven. This bet can be placed at any time. If you win, you receive a prize equal to your stake.

Proposition bets: These bets can be placed in the middle of the table. They can be placed at any time. With the exception of hardways bets, these are single bets.

Bet Points Payout
Any Craps 2, 3 or 12
Any Seven 5, 6 or 8
Eleven 11
Ace Deuce 3
Aces or Boxcars 2 or 12

Horn bet: Bet on 2, 3, 11 and 12. A single bet. The winnings depend on the number rolled.

Hardways: Bets on pairs. If you roll a 7, you still win. The payout is 8 to 1 for 4 or 10 and 10 to 1 for 6 or 8.

Strategy in craps

The potential payout for each roll is also an important factor. In other words, consider the possibilities of scoring 4 or 10 points. Then the chances of scoring 5 or 9 points and 6 or 8 – 4 and 10 – are three possibilities, and 7 can be scored in six ways. Accordingly, the probability of a particular number being rolled can be determined by how many combinations can be formed. The more such combinations there are, the higher the probability that this number will be rolled.

In any game, players should want to bet on their best odds. In dice games, this means Pass, Don’t Pass, Come and Don’t Come bets. With these bets, the casino’s advantage is lower and your chances of winning are higher.

Types of bets

The percentage of the pass bet is usually 1.41%. Don’t pass is around 1.40%. Betting on the line can also be profitable, but keep in mind that the lower the casino’s advantage, the higher the probability of winning.

Bets House Edge
Field Bets (The Field) 5.6%
Big 6 or 8 9.1%
Horn Bets 12.5%
Craps 2 or 12 Bets 13.9%
Any 7 Bets 16.7%

As you can see from our list, the ‘Any Seven’ or ‘Craps’ bets offer the greatest advantage to the casino, which means that your money will end up in the casino’s coffers much more often. Even though some bets offer high payouts, you will probably lose even more if you chase them.

Come or Don’t Come bets are a good choice because they are similar to Pass bets. This means that the casino’s built-in profit is similar.
